Types of Adhesive tape

Pressure-sensitive tape

Pressure-sensitive tape, also known as PSA tape, self-stick tape, or sticky tape, comprises a pressure-sensitive adhesive applied onto a backing material like paper, plastic film, cloth, or metal foil. Its adhesive properties—being tacky or sticky—don't rely on heat or solvent for activation, adhering to surfaces with gentle pressure. Commonly used adhesives include polymers like acrylates, as well as natural and synthetic rubber. To prevent sticking before use, these tapes often necessitate a release agent on their backing or a cover like a release liner over the adhesive. At times, the term "adhesive tape" is used interchangeably to refer to these types of tapes.

Water-activated tape

Water-activated tape, also known as gummed paper tape or gummed tape, comprises an adhesive made from starch or occasionally animal glue, applied onto a paper backing. When moistened, this adhesive becomes sticky, adhering to surfaces.

Heat-sensitive tape

Heat-activated tape typically lacks tackiness until it's triggered by a heat source. This property proves especially beneficial in industries like semiconductors.

Drywall tape

Drywall tape, whether paper, cloth, or mesh, may feature a gummed or pressure-sensitive adhesive. Its purpose is to reinforce and smooth out joints between sheets of drywall materials.
