Engineering students' careers are generally shaped by their performance in early projects. The failure of the first attempt causes many students to give up on electronics. The failures of a few students can lead students to believe that successful project ideas of today are not likely to succeed tomorrow. Therefore, beginners can start with these projects to get the result in their first attempt and to get motivated for their future endeavors. 

 

It is important that you understand how breadboards work and how they are used before continuing. There are 10 simple electronic circuits in this article, but they are not intended to be used as final year projects by engineering students. Under the basic and small category, the following circuits can be found.

What are Simple Electronic Circuits?

Integrated circuits (ICs) are electronic components with specific functions that are constructed from resistors, capacitors, diodes, and transistors. For beginners and educational purposes, these circuits are ideal for understanding, constructing, and analyzing. An example of a voltage divider would be LED flashers, amplifier circuits, and oscillators. Circuits in simple form form the foundation for understanding electronic principles and circuit design, laying the groundwork for more complex circuits and systems.

Rain Alarm

Houses, irrigation fields, business sites, and automobiles can all benefit from this simple, yet very useful project. With unpredictable weather, we understand how challenging it can be to complete any project.  One minute it's sunny, the next you're soaking your tools and equipment in the rain.

 

Creating your own rain alarm can help you solve this problem. An alarm or notification will be activated when the system detects rain. Then, your tools and equipment would be ready just in time, and you would be more prepared. It is rather simple to make this project with the materials you need. Rain sensors, power supplies, breadboards, LEDs, buzzers (optional), resistors, capacitors, and a few resistors are all you'll need. Online or in any electronic store, you can easily purchase these materials for a reasonable price.

Auto Night Lamp

The screen of your phone adjusts its brightness automatically when it becomes dark, similar to your phone's screen. The same can be archived by using any type of night lamp. Automatically switching on at night and turning off at daylight, this night lamp would automatically turn on and off when it is nighttime.

For a first electronics project, this Auto Night Lamp is a great choice. You can give it to almost anyone as a gift and it is convenient. In addition, it is a straightforward project for testing your circuit diagram knowledge. The project is easy, requires few tools, and is relatively inexpensive in terms of materials.

Fire Alarm

As a result of this project, you will be able to gain a better understanding of how real-world electronics systems work. Online, you can find step-by-step guides and multiple approaches to this project because many hobbyists have already done it.

 

If you want to measure the ambient temperature with this fire alarm, you can use a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) Thermistor. Because NTC's resistance is inversely proportional to temperature, it is recommended for this project. For a better measurement of resistance, the 10K Ohm NTC thermometer is frequently combined with LM358, one of the most commonly used components.

 

As an alternative to the resistor, this DIY project can also be accomplished using a light-dependent resistor (LDR). LDRs can be used instead of NTC thermistors to detect fire. In contrast, NTC thermistor detects fire by monitoring temperature changes, while LDR detects fire by monitoring smoke emissions.

Clap Switch

With this feature, you will no longer have to get out of bed to turn off your bedroom light. In addition, electrical shocks aren't a concern with this clap switch. The switch can also be placed in the bathroom so that wet hands do not touch any switches. This project is also centered around the microphone. Because it will register your clap to the circuit, so it will pick up your clap. Your choice of materials for the circuit and the power supply will ultimately determine how you use it. To ensure precision and better timing, semiconductor chips such as the LM555 are another popular option.

Digital Altimeter

Are you interested in learning how to solder and program through-holes? You might be a good candidate for this project. To run the code with this project, you will need the Arduino IDE. In this case, several hobbyists recommend using the Arduino Pro model or something similar, such as the FTDI Breakout Board. For this digital altimeter to work, you'll also need a pressure or altitude sensor.

 

The first time you work on this project, it may seem complicated to beginners and non-coders. It is, however, possible to download the code from the internet because several people have already done this. Because Github already has the library for the code, you don't need any coding background for this project. You can download it for free online and access it publicly.

Solar Phone Charger 

Solar panels are explained in detail in this project. You can apply your basic circuitry knowledge to this project, making it an ideal project for beginners.  

 

You should note, however, that if this project is not performed correctly, your phone might be damaged. Our recommendation is to find an online guide that has been thoughtfully designed and includes step-by-step instructions. In any case, you would obtain a better understanding of the solar charger circuit by doing this project.  It is a simple and inexpensive project that uses inexpensive materials. Soldering iron, mini solar panel, inverter USB charging device, phone cable, and phone cable connector will all be required in order to complete this project.

LED Circuit

Compared to other components, diodes emit light and are relatively small. Due to their affordability, ease of use, and ability to determine whether a circuit works, LEDs have many advantages.

 

The holes and electrons move back and forth across the junction under the forward bias condition. By combining or otherwise eliminating one another, they will eliminate one another. A long-term electron migration from n-type silicon to p-type silicon will lead to the creation of a hole and the eventual disappearance of the electron. Using this method, one atom is formed and this is more stable, so light photons are generated.

 

During reverse bias, all electrons present in the junction are drained away by the positive power supply. The negative terminal will be drawn toward hole after hole. Charge carriers are depleted in the junction, preventing current flow. Long pins are anodes. To connect this pin to a positive voltage, you must connect it to the pin with the highest voltage. A negative voltage should be applied to the cathode pin. In order for the LED to work, the wires must be connected correctly.

Water Level Indicator

Overflow often wastes water. DIYers and professionals have devised this easy-to-build and affordable solution to this problem. Monitoring water levels in a container and alerting users if they approach overflow are the core functions of this project.

 

There are several ways and approaches to accomplish this, as several hobbyists have already accomplished it. Microcontrollers such as AVR and Arduino can be used to make a water alarm, or you can build it using transistors, 555 timers, and ULN2003 ICs.

 

You can always find a step-by-step guide online, regardless of whether you use microcontrollers or simple circuits. Hobbyists and DIYers tend to enjoy this project, so you won't have trouble finding guides and code libraries online.

Biometric Attendance System

Security systems nowadays use biometrics to identify their users. The use of biometric identification is, however, a growing trend among hobbyists and professionals alike. Attendance management and checking are used instead of security systems. You can certainly show off this project at a conference or mass gathering if you plan on holding one. By using biometric identification, you can mark their attendance at a conference rather than requiring them to bring an ID.

 

Because the code for running the microcontroller is publicly available, we consider it an electronic project for beginners. The best way to find it is simply to Google it. To run it on your microcontroller, you just need to find a library that supports it.

Circuits with basic electronic components, such as resistors, capacitors, LEDs, and more, provide beginners with a hands-on introduction to electronics.
